Molasses – Where the molasses comes from and where it goes is not known. The origins along with the destination, which is presumably like all rivers headed to the ocean, is knowledge that to the Nihileafs, myself, and you readers is forever shrouded in mystery. Instead we all must settle for what we know and that it is simply going places. The Nihileafs, though it is not shown, will watch this river of molasses slowly, viscously creep across the land for some time. It will be a reminder to the Nihileafs of the passage of time and the journeys that molecules make, sometimes as in this instance together in an amorphous mass, while they themselves remain in a stagnant pond. I’ve recently read a book called the Sixth Extinction by Elizabeth Kolbert that describes colonies of Amazonian ants that are perpetually on the move and how evolution has crafted at least 300 some species, of butterflies and birds, that are dependent on them for survival, and as the title suggests may be in danger of becoming extinct along with all species in the ecosystem dependent upon them. One wonders what species will evolve to live off so much slow migrating molasses, perhaps such fast moving organisms as moss and sloths, though I can assure you that, at least in this case, the Nihileafs will not be here long enough to witness it. After all they too have places to go! – Zachary
