Firefly – “Firefly, could you shine your light. Now I know your ways, ’cause they’re just like mine. Now I’m justified, as I fall in line, and it’s hard to try, when you’re open wide. Fucking firefly, have you lost your light? Now I hate your ways, ’cause they’re just like mine. So you lost my friend, such a sorry end. And I don’t why, so I joke and smile.” So goes the song Firefly by Breaking Benjamin. I will age myself by admitting that in the four and a half billion years the Earth has been around, I’m of the time after this song was released. Which is to say I know this song. It has nothing to do with this comic other than the title, oh and ‘Fucking Firefly’ and ‘so I joke and smile’. Instead, this comic was inspired by a lone firefly lightening its beacon, a literal light of inspiration. Then a moment later it was gone. So is my life. As is the Earth. So too is the sun. As is all the universe. So too do black holes decay. As goes all existence. Blink and you might miss it, both the inspiration for a comic and also everything that ever was. And when did the Narrator get so poetic. The Narrator, uncharacteristically, speaks in metaphors. Or is that a simile. Or is it a cliché. – Zachary
